LAS VEGAS -– In a move that reflects an important step in Nevada’s climate policy, Gov. Steve Sisolak’s Nevada Climate Initiative (NCI) officially unveiled the Nevada State Climate Strategy Tuesday after much anticipation from the environmental community. NCI, which launched in August,  put together the strategy after taking input from both scientists and the public over the past several months .

The plan touches on an array of different climate-related issues, including transportation, energy, natural resources, public lands and economic development. A statement released by the NCI said that the plan was meant to provide a framework to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across every economic sector in the state.

Environmentalists have largely praised the program as a positive step for the state that helps further solidify Gov. Sisolak’s commitment to tackling the climate crisis.

Environment Nevada State Director Levi Kamolnick released the following statement:

“It’s a pleasure to see a governor both listening to his constituents and subsequently acting on their feedback. The NCI Climate Strategy is an excellent and necessary step for our state as we work toward meeting the clean energy standards passed in the 2019 legislative session. Gov. Sisolak continues to cement his legacy as a leader on climate and his refusal to shy away from the issues isn’t going unnoticed. Environment Nevada and our partners look forward to working with the governor and his team to carry out the lofty goals outlined in the strategy.”
